UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Welcome to our site!

Our mission – “Celebrate and Share Christ with our community and throughout our world.”

We are a community church open to all who wish to join us in worship and in fellowship with others. All are welcome.

Church Sanctuary and Stewart Hall are accessible to people with disabilities.

Our church address is 285 North 2nd St., Hotchkiss, CO.  81419

Where in our community is God calling us to serve?? How are we sharing God’s Love??

It is time for us to return to online/distance worship and/or other safer forms of worship, study and fellowship. effective November 22, 2020 through at least January 31, 2021.

1. Beginning this Sunday, November 22 we will not meet in our buildings. Rev. Josh will record his message by video and post that to our churches’ Facebook pages and distribute that video via the email list.

2. Sundays at 10 a.m. Rev. Josh will host a ZOOM video/phone call for us to share in a Call to Worship, Opening Prayer, Joys and Concerns, and Lord’s Prayer together. He will have the words of the liturgy viewable on the screen for those using a computer. He will also email copies of the liturgy prior to the ZOOM gathering for those who may be gathering via phone. He will email this information on Wednesday afternoon.

3. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March we have been mailing out twice monthly printed summaries of my messages to people who cannot view worship online. If you or someone you know would like to added to this mailing list, please email jlhpastor@gmail.com with name and mailing address.

4. Starting next week Rev. Josh will continue his weekly pastoral phone calls as a way of staying in touch with church members. If you know of someone to add to the church phone call list, someone whose information in the church telephone directory is out of date, or someone who has a pressing prayer concern, please email jlhpastor@gmail.com with the information.

You may follow the church’s Facebook page to stay up to date.

Children’s & Families Ministries for January, 2021

Sledding, Cross-Country Skiing, and Snowshoeing noon Sunday in Steven’s Gulch — We’ll all meet at noon on Sunday, January 17 at Windy Point parking lot and winter trailhead. From Highway 133 in Paonia, take Steven’s Gulch Road up the hill (driving northwest). Drive 10 miles to the parking area. It takes about 20 minutes to get there from Paonia United Methodist Church. We will start with a brief devotion based on the albedo of snow and how that is a metaphor for our lives of faith. Bring your own lunch. Josh will have hot cider for everyone. We will wear masks anytime we’re within 6 feet of each other. Bring sleds. Bring cross-country skis if you would like to enjoy the grooming the Delta County Snowmobile Club has done. Josh will bring a couple extra pairs of snowshoes as well as an inner tube and a plastic sled.

 Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship

The Bross Hotel at the corner of Third and Onarga across the street from Paonia United Methodist Church has graciously agreed to allow us to use their parking lot for a brief Christmas Eve candlelight worship. We will meet in the Bross Hotel parking lot at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve to hear the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. We will sing a couple of hymns and then light individual candles as we share the light of Christ with one another and our community. The parking lot should provide enough outdoor space for us to socially distance, but wear a mask as we will be closer than six-feet from one another while passing the light of Christ.  All are welcome.

Worship at Home Mailings
Many of our church participants are unable to join us for in-person worship and do not have internet access to participate in our online worship offerings. We continue to mail a Worship at Home guide every two weeks. This mailing contains brief reflections of the previous two sermons. If you or someone you know would like to be added to this mailing, please contact the church office at 872-3540 or email – hotchkisscumc@gmail.com.

Mail-in Offerings and Tithes
During each of our  in-person worship gatherings we will not pass an offering plate; however, there will be an offering box or offering plate available as you enter each worship space on Sunday morning. You may drop your offering there as you enter or exit worship. For those who are not comfortable dropping off their offering before or after worship or for those who are worshipping with us online, via the radio, or with our Worship at Home mailing, you may mail your offering in to the church office using the addresses below.
