New Worship Times at Hotchkiss and Paonia Starting  Sunday, July 4th

Effective July 4th, Hotchkiss Community UMC will meet for worship at 9:30 a.m. Adult Sunday school with Rev. Josh will meet in Hotchkiss 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Sundays in Stewart Hall. All are welcome.

Hotchkiss Bible Study Sunday with Pastor Josh at 8:30 a.m in Stewart Hall, church basement. We will meet downstairs for discussion, study, and reflection on the scripture reading that we will be using in worship. This study will give us a little more time to understand the historical context and meaning of the scripture passage than can usually happen during the sermon. I hope you will join us.

Hotchkiss Hangout Resumes Sunday, July 11th — Stay after worship in Hotchkiss for a time of fellowship and light refreshments in Stewart Hall. This is a great opportunity for fellowship with fellow church members.

Hotchkiss Children’s Sunday School resumes July 25th. Children will begin worship in the sanctuary and then head to their classroom downstairs after the Story for All Ages.

Starting Sunday, September 19th – Sermon Series

This will be the focus of our worship for the next four Sundays: developing our traveler’s mindset and practicing travel as a spiritual act. We will start this Sunday with “Leaving Home.” If we want to experience growth, liberation, or transformation, we cannot stay where we are. We are invited to step out of our comfort zones, encounter something new, and learn lessons that we just cannot learn at home. This can be an exciting and frightening invitation. In Exodus 13:17-21 the Israelite people are invited to leave home to find liberation and transformation; what they realize as they go, is that God was leading them into these new experiences and encounters.

September is Fall Kickoff —  The first two Sundays of September our worship theme was Kickoff! On September 5th we considered what it means to start a new season in sports, in life, and in ministry. September 12th we thought about the importance of having and following a game plan. These two Sundays Rev. Josh invited us to wear our favorite teams’ jerseys or colors to worship. We will have a football themed photo booth at both churches where you can take and share fun pictures. We’ll have a fun giveaway. It will be a great way to kickoff fall ministries.

Two Fall Study Opportunities — Speaking of fall ministries we will have two great study opportunities starting in September.

First, Rev. Josh will be leading a six-week study titled “The Awakened Traveler” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays starting September 7th in Paonia. This group study will parallel our fall sermon series titled “Quest” and is based on travel writer Rick Steve’s work. Mark your calendars and look for more information to come.

In Hotchkiss Rev. Josh will start a new study titled “Saving Jesus Redux” on September 12th. This is a video and workbook study meant to challenge us to think deeply about our faith and how that faith is lived out. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. starting Sept. 12th.  There are 12 sessions, but depending on how quickly we move through the material it may take longer than 12 weeks.

You may follow the church’s Facebook page to stay up to date.

You may follow Pastor Josh at this Facebook link below.  He will be sharing church information on this page. He looks forward to reconnecting with you online.
