We are a community church open to all who wish to join us in worship and in fellowship with others. All are welcome.

Hotchkiss Community UMC continues to meet  for worship at 9:30 a.m.

Adult Sunday school with Rev. Josh will meet in Hotchkiss 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Sundays in Stewart Hall.

All are welcome.

 Hotchkiss Children’s Sunday School  continues to meet for planned outside activities due to pandemic concerns.

ADVENT SEASON

This Advent season we will “Unbox Christmas” by looking at the unexpected gifts that God gives to us during this special time of year. I hope you will join us in-person and online for our Advent worship.

Worship Live Stream — If you can’t join us in person for worship, you are invited to participate in worship through our livestream on our Facebook pages. If you can’t join us live, a recording of the worship will be posted on the Facebook pages for later viewing.

Starting Sunday, November 28th, new Advent book/video study will meet at 8:30am at Hotchkiss & Paonia at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays starting Nov. 30th. All are invited to join in this time of learning and formation as we prepare for Christmas.

 Hotchkiss Church Advent Decorating

 Advent Nativity Scenes – Beginning November 28 we will be decorating the six sanctuary windows at the church for Advent with nativity scenes. If you would like to share a nativity scene with the church, there is a clipboard on the table at the back of the sanctuary to sign up. 
 
Poinsettias – Starting November 28 we would like for everyone to bring a poinsettia to help decorate the church and the altar. These will be in place for December.

Children’s Ministries Resume Meeting for Advent — with COVID vaccines now available for children 5 years of age and older, we will resume children’s ministries in the Advent season. Please see the list of children’s and families’ activities below and watch for update on scheduled events.

  • Advent Spiral making — Sunday, November 28 @ 1 p.m. @ Paonia UMC —join us as we make salt dough Advent spiral candleholders that we will use to follow the journey of the Holy Family toward Christmas Day.

  • Gingerbread House and Cookie Decorating — Sunday December 5 @1 p.m. @ Hotchkiss Community UMC — join us as we decorate gingerbread houses and Christmas cookies. We will learn about how the gingerbread house reminds us of the birth of Christ in the town of Bethlehem.

  • Saint Lucia Celebration — Sunday, December 12 @ 4 p.m. @ Paonia UMC — Who was Saint Lucia? Why did she wear a crown of candles? Why was she always giving away sweet bread? Join us as we answer these questions while we make a St. Lucia head wreath and bake bread which we can give to our friends and neighbors.

  • Living Nativity — Sunday, Dec. 19 @ 1 p.m. @ Hotchkiss Community UMC — join us as we retell and reenact the story of Jesus’ birth complete with animals and the full cast of biblical characters.  

Youth Choir Class Sundays in Paonia — A youth choir class is being offered at 10 a.m. Sundays at Paonia United Methodist Church. The class is open to youth 5-18 years old. No experience is required. Come willing to jump in and learn to sing. The classes are free and will be held Sundays through Dec. 19 from 10-11 a.m. The youth choir will plan to perform in December, but the performance is not required if participants are not comfortable performing in public. Classes are led by Cassondra S., Sue E., and others as they are available.

Worship at Home Mailings
Many of our church participants are unable to join us for in-person worship and do not have internet access to participate in our online worship offerings. We continue to mail a Worship at Home guide every two weeks. This mailing contains brief reflections of the previous two sermons. If you or someone you know would like to be added to this mailing, please contact the church office at 872-3540 or email – hotchkisscumc@gmail.com.

Mail-in Offerings and Tithes
During each of our  in-person worship gatherings we will not pass an offering plate; however, there will be an offering box or offering plate available as you enter each worship space on Sunday morning. You may drop your offering there as you enter or exit worship. For those who are not comfortable dropping off their offering before or after worship or for those who are worshipping with us online, via the radio, or with our Worship at Home mailing, you may mail your offering in to the church office using the addresses below.

HOTCHKISS FOOD BANK at the Methodist Church at 2nd & Orchard

We have been and continue to be open to provide nutritional food for those in need of assistance. Our pantry is stocked. We are continuing our CURBSIDE only pick up due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please CALL 872-3540 & leave a message with phone number and name. We will return your call on Tuesday from 9am-12pm. Pick up times are on Wednesday between 10am-12pm. Your food request will be delivered to you at curbside, only. Our doors remain locked. THANK YOU!!!! Be Safe

-Sunday Worship Service starting July 4th, 2021 – 9:30am.  All are welcome.

-Adult Sunday School – September-May, 8:30am.  All are welcome.

-Children’s Sunday School – please contact the church office at 970-872-3540; They are have started to have Sunday School on Sunday, May 2nd.   This is every other Sunday. Children will be excused after ‘Story for All Ages’ with Rev. Josh during the Worship Service for their Sunday School. All children are welcome.  As of September 12th,  children’s Sunday School is on hold for indoor meetings but there are outdoor activities being planned.
